Former Bank of Union president indicted in connection with bank failure

On December 13, 2016, a federal grand jury returned a 23-count indictment against John Arnold Shelley, 66, of Oklahoma City, in connection with the failure of the Bank of Union, announced Mark A. Yancey, United States Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma. 

The counts include conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, making false statements to a bank, misapplication of bank funds, false bank entries, wire fraud, and making false statements to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).

Shelley was the President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman of the Board, and a loan officer at The Bank of Union (BOU) in El Reno, Oklahoma, from approximately 1997 until his resignation on November 30, 2013.

Residents asked to confine dogs

The Minco Police Department is asking dog owners to keep their dogs confined following two incidents involving aggressive dogs.
The first incident occurred on July 3 when a citizen reported a vicious dog off of Fourth and Belle. The dog growled, barked and charged the resident and his son while the resident was in his yard.

Minco Cheer Squads earn Awards

The Minco High School and Junior High cheer squads attended cheerleading camp at The University of Oklahoma on July 17-19. 
Both teams had a productive three days of learning new material & stunt techniques while also bringing home numerous awards. MHS cheer was awarded Game Time Top Team while MJH brought home the trophy for Champion Chant division.

Leota Denny

Services for Leota Denny, 82 of Chickasha, were held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Christian Center in Chickasha. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home, Minco.
Leota was born July 22, 1931 to Virgil and Flora Ann (Hardy) Walton. She died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at her home in Chickasha.
Leota was born in Pittsburg, Oklahoma and raised in Braggs, Oklahoma where she attended Braggs schools. She married William Joseph “Bill” Edwards on December 6, 1947. 
Leota was a member of the Christian Center in Chickasha, which she helped to start. She was devoted to her church and pastored the women’s classes. She had worked as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Muskogee Police Department. She had also been an apartment manager and landlord and had done accounting and worked as a realtor.
Survivors include her four sons Johnny Edwards and wife Diane of Muskogee, Rex Edwards and wife Melanie of Ft. Gibson, Mike Edwards of the home and Ron Thomas of Chickasha, one daughter Peggy Head and husband James of Broken Arrow, one brother Frank Walton of Minco, one sister Roxie Razier of Reseda, California, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
