Ross brothers share Emmy win

Minco natives Lucas and Marcus Ross each took home an Emmy earlier this month. 
The Emmy Award is presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for the best in television. The Heartland Chapter of NATAS was formed in 1986 and includes the Oklahoma City television market, as well as Tulsa, Denver, Wichita/Hutchinson, Omaha, Colorado Springs/Pueblo, Lincoln/Hastings-Kearney, Topeka, Grand Junction/Montrose, Cheyenne/Scottsbluff and North Platte.

Nathan Herndon and Lauren McMahon were recent participants in the Hugh O’Brian Leadership conference. HOBY, a national program recognizing leadership abilities among American Sophomore students, offers a unique training opportunity for young people selected by their schools as leaders among their peers.

Minco/Union City Post Offices deliver 3rd largest food donation

The Minco and Union City Post Offices completed a successful food drive campaign May 10th, delivering the third largest donation out of 136 surrounding associate offices based on pounds per delivery. 
“We appreciate the communities of Minco and Union City for donations and helping feed those who are in need,” said Denise Wheeler of this year’s food drive success.
The Minco and Union City Post Offices collected 1,628 pounds of food during the drive, all of which was donated to families in need.
The food drive is an annual program launched by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, the state’s largest private hunger relief organization.

As good as last week was for Minco’s teams, this week was at least inversely bad. Minco started the week off against very talented Thomas teams. Monday games are unusual in high school basketball which adds another dimension to what was already a tough prospect.

Leota Denny

Services for Leota Denny, 82 of Chickasha, were held on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Christian Center in Chickasha. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home, Minco.
Leota was born July 22, 1931 to Virgil and Flora Ann (Hardy) Walton. She died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at her home in Chickasha.
Leota was born in Pittsburg, Oklahoma and raised in Braggs, Oklahoma where she attended Braggs schools. She married William Joseph “Bill” Edwards on December 6, 1947. 
Leota was a member of the Christian Center in Chickasha, which she helped to start. She was devoted to her church and pastored the women’s classes. She had worked as a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Muskogee Police Department. She had also been an apartment manager and landlord and had done accounting and worked as a realtor.
Survivors include her four sons Johnny Edwards and wife Diane of Muskogee, Rex Edwards and wife Melanie of Ft. Gibson, Mike Edwards of the home and Ron Thomas of Chickasha, one daughter Peggy Head and husband James of Broken Arrow, one brother Frank Walton of Minco, one sister Roxie Razier of Reseda, California, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
